The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is hundreds of scientists, doctors and nurses working

together every day toward a common goal — eliminating cancer as a major public health problem.

As one of the first eight institutions to be designated as a comprehensive cancer center by the Na-

tional Cancer Institute, we have led this charge for nearly 40 years.

Our innovative basic science and translational research brings us closer to our goal. In our 2009 Annual

Report, you will meet Dianne Poe, a mother, grandmother, teacher and cancer survivor. Our leading-edge

research, as well as our teams of doctors and nurses, made significant contributions to Dianne’s life

and helped her get back to the life she loves.
