IDIE HASTINGS JOINED THE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE UAB COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER IN HONOR OF SOMEONE
SHE NEVER EVEN GOT THE CHANCE TO MEET.
A Cleveland, Ohio, native and UAB
alumna, Mrs. Hastings had spent five years
honing her culinary skills in California
before deciding to return to Birmingham to
open her own restaurant, the Hot and Hot
Fish Club. Immediately upon her return,
she knew she wanted to get involved with
organizations she felt particularly passionate
about. “Birmingham had done so much for
me, and I wanted to pick a few things that
were dear to me to help out,” Mrs. Hastings
says.
She felt especially drawn to cancer because
of someone she didn’t even know: Her moth-
er-in-law died from breast cancer before they
ever had the chance to meet. Mrs. Hastings
wanted to be a part of something that gave
back to the cancer community, which led her
