national leader in the research and treatment of gastrointestinal can-
cers, which account for nearly 20 percent of all cancer deaths.
By supporting the gastrointestinal Oncology Research and patient
Care Initiative at UAB, you can make a difference.
the gastrointestinal Oncology Research and patient Care Initiative is
an effort to bring together the resources needed to coordinate and
enhance these programs and create a nationally prominent research
and patient care enterprise in gI oncology at UAB.
Our goal is to raise $5.5 million over three phases:
your support will help raise awareness and much-needed funding for
research to give patients a fighting chance against a disease that cur-
rently has no cure.
The Gastrointestinal Oncology Research and Patient Care Initiative
Endowed Chair in gI Oncology — $1.5 million
young Investigator pilot projects — $1.25 million
($50,000 for 5 years for 5 projects)
three transdisciplinary Research
Collaborations — $750,000
($250,000 over 2 years for 3 projects)
senior scientist Recruitment — $2 million
($1 million for a Ph.D. researcher and $500,000 each
for 2 clinician-scientists)
