cers, which account for nearly 20 percent of all cancer deaths.

the gastrointestinal Oncology Research and patient Care Initiative is

an effort to bring together the resources needed to coordinate and

enhance these programs and create a nationally prominent research

and patient care enterprise in gI oncology at UAB. 

Our goal is to raise $5.5 million over three phases:

your support will help raise awareness and much-needed funding for

research to give patients a fighting chance against a disease that cur-

rently has no cure.

PHASE I

Endowed Chair in gI Oncology — $1.5 million

PHASE II

young Investigator pilot projects — $1.25 million

($50,000 for 5 years for 5 projects)

three transdisciplinary Research

Collaborations — $750,000 

($250,000 over 2 years for 3 projects)

PHASE III

senior scientist Recruitment — $2 million

($1 million for a Ph.D. researcher and $500,000 each

for 2 clinician-scientists)
