This shared facility is an infrastructure housed in the Division of Preventive Medicine to assist UAB investigators in recruiting subjects to participate in clinical research.  It provides:

–Help with developing recruitment plans for research proposals or funded projects;

–Identifies potential participants and reaches them with targeted mass mailings and population-specific recruiting materials;

–Conducts community outreach activities, on-site clinic recruitment, workshops on recruitment and retention, telephone interviews, and focus groups.

Facility Description

The infrastructure includes a well-developed Information System that includes Mass Mailing, Tracking, and Health Profile databases.

–The population-based Mass Mailing System (MMS) of Alabama and metro Atlanta residents  includes approximately 3.5 million unique records by race, age, gender, and address.

–The Health Profile System (HPS) includes data from about 18,000 individuals who have completed a General Health Questionnaire (regarding cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, hormone use, smoking history, and alcohol use) and have indicated an interest in participating in research studies.

–The 3-PAR tracking system is a custom designed program that allows staff to conduct phone interviews, and track every contact with participants.

This shared facility gives investigators access to an experienced team of recruiters who have recruited more than17,000 participants for more than 80 research studies.  The team includes phone interviewers, data managers and analysts, project planners, and community outreach personnel.

Services are tailored to the needs of the investigators’ research studies, and fees are based on services provided.
