UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Senior Scientist Danny Welch, Ph.D., a renowned expert in the biology and genetics of cancer metastasis, has been Selected to Serve on the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Scientific Advisory Council.

The Komen advisory council also will provide scientific review for the research grants and programs the organization funds annually, and council members will help guide Komen leaders toward best-practices in cancer education and policy initiatives.
Council members based in the United States will be liaisons in 21 communities across the nation. Council members based in other nations will be liaisons to communities in Belgium, Canada, England, Israel, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. Welch, director of UAB’s Graduate Biomedical Sciences Program in Cancer Biology and a professor in UAB’s Department of Pathology, directs UAB’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute Med-Grad Fellowship Program and holds the Leonard H. Robinson Endowed Professorship in Pathology.
The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is among the 40 cancer centers in the nation to meet the stringent criteria for the National Cancer Institute’s comprehensive designation. The center is a leader in groundbreaking research, reducing cancer disparities and leading-edge patient care.
