James H. Estes Endowed Chair for Lung Cancer Research

Dr. Robert J. Cerfolio

Dr. Robert J. Cerfolio was named the inaugural holder of the James H. Estes Endowed Chair for Lung Cancer Research on February 5, 2010, by the Board of Trustees. Dr. Cerfolio is a Professor of Medicine and Section Chief of Thoracic Surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. He joined the UAB faculty in 1996. His research and clinical interests include pulmonary, esophageal cancer, lunch cancer, and chest wall pathology.

Boris Pasche, M.D., Ph.D.

Boris C. Pasche, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medicine, Director of the Division of Hematology-Oncology and Deputy Director of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. A specialist in breast and colon cancer genetics, Dr. Pasche is internationally recognized for his basic science and clinical research. One of his most recent successes was a study that revealed one of the first genetic links between obesity and colon cancer as well as the discovery that decreased expression of the TGFBR1 gene is a major cause of colorectal cancer.

Edward E. Partridge, M.D.

This chair is held by the Director of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Edward E. Partridge, M.D., Professor of Gynecologic Oncology, serves as principal investigator of the Deep South Network for Cancer Control –a community based, participatory network designed to prevent cancer in at-risk populations. The program has been successful in increasing screenings for breast, cervix and colorectal cancer in low income and minority communities in the Black Belt of Alabama and the Delta of Mississippi.  Dr. Partridge is also the principal investigator of the National Cancer Institute-funded Morehouse School of Medicine/Tuskegee University/UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center Partnership. This partnership is designed to develop the cancer research programs at minority-serving institutions through training, mentorship, and community engagement. Dr. Partridge is currently president of the national board of directors of the American Cancer Society.

 

Albert F. LoBuglio Endowed Chair for Translational Cancer Research

This chair is held by Harry P. Erba, M.D., Ph.D. Dr. Erba is a professor of medicine, director of the Hematologic Malignancy Program and co-director of the Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Program in the Division of Hematology and Oncology.
