Wendy Demark-Wahnefried, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Nutrition Sciences and associate director for cancer prevention and control at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named president-elect of the American Society of Preventive Oncology. The ASPO is a multi-disciplinary society that advocates for cancer and control research. She has been a member for nearly 20 years.


demark-wahnefried-2011For the past two decades, Demark-Wahnefried’s research has spanned basic science studies to clinical research that involves nutrition-related concerns of cancer patients and determining effective lifestyle interventions that improve the overall health of cancer survivors and their families.

 

In May, Demark-Wahnefried was named to the Institute of Medicine’s National Cancer Policy Forum.

 

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is among the 40 cancer centers in the nation to meet the stringent criteria for the National Cancer Institute's comprehensive designation. The center is a leader in groundbreaking research, reducing cancer disparities and leading-edge patient care.
