V Foundation for Cancer Research Grant

 

The V Foundation FOR Cancer Research is interested in funding a TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECT on MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROMES (MDS) as it relates to people with or at risk for cancer. A two year grant will be awarded in August 2013 with payments anticipated to be in the $300,000 to $400,000 range, depending on fundraising success. Only ONE nominee will be considered per institution. The UAB nominee will be selected by an internal review committee.  

 

UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center members are invited to submit a two-page letter of intent (LOI) for review by an internal committee. One individual will be selected to submit an LOI to the V Foundation.

 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF LETTERS OF INTENT FOR INTERNAL REVIEW: 

FRIDAY, MAY 24, 2013, BY 5:00 PM

 

INSTRUCTIONS

The Letter of Intent should outline a specific proposed project. It should

 

  • Be no more than 2 pages in length
  • Provide proposed project title and short summary, explain the translational nature of the research, and discuss its potential impact on people with or at risk of cancer
  • Include the following:
    • Investigator(s) name(s), title(s) and qualifications
    • Institution name
    • Institution history with MDS research
    • Brief description of the Project Aims and Approaches
    • Proposed budget amount (within parameters outlined above)
    • Other current grants in this area
    • An explanation in lay language of why this research is compelling, important and unique.

Young Supporters Board New Faculty Development Award in Cancer Research

 

The Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is soliciting grant applications for the New Faculty Development Award in Cancer Research.  

 

  • Qualified applicants:  Junior faculty members (Assistant Professors and Instructors) who have held any faculty position for two years or less and who have not received funding from a major national funding agency (except training awards).
  • Purpose of award:  To provide “seed” money for the initiation of a promising new cancer-related project by a junior faculty member to obtain preliminary results that facilitate successful competition for a national research grant.
  • Funding amount:  Limited to a maximum of $40,000 for a 12-month period beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014.  Two meritorious applications will be funded.

Multi-Investigator Grant

 

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is inviting applications for funding of a Multi-Investigator Grant to support the development of interdisciplinary collaborations for a competitive extramural grant focused on cancer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•   Applications are open to all UAB Cancer Center faculty members (any rank).

•   The purpose of this grant is to promote interactions between two or more Cancer Center members that have complementary interests and the potential to develop into a multi-disciplinary research program with a well-defined cancer research focus.

•   Preference will be given to proposals with significant cancer relevance that build upon synergistic collaborations, are considered likely to lead to co-author publications and a competitive extramural grant application.

•   One award of $125,000, for a 12 month period beginning August 1, 2013, and ending July 31, 2014.
