V Scholar Grant Awards

 

The V Foundation has invited the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center to nominate an individual research project for consideration for the V Scholar Grant (http://www.jimmyv.org/research/grant-application/ ).  Laboratory-based fundamental research and clinical projects will be considered.  V Scholar Grant awards total $200,000 and are given in two installments of $100, 000 per year.  Only ONE individual may apply from each institution. 

 

All eligible UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center members are invited to submit a two-page letter of intent (LOI) for review by an internal committee. One individual will be selected to submit a full application to the V Foundation.

 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF LETTERS OF INTENT FOR INTERNAL REVIEW: 

FRIDAY, MAY 17, 2013, BY 5:00 PM 

 

ELIGIBILITY 

The candidate must:

  • Have completed at least two years of fellowship/postdoctoral training
  • Currently hold a tenure track faculty position
  • No more than five years since joining the faculty as an instructor or assistant professor
  • No more than 10 years since terminal degree (MD or PhD)
  • Not have been promoted to Associate Professor.
  • Researchers who have secured their own RO1 funding are not eligible. Applicants with institutional or KO8 awards are eligible.

 

INSTRUCTIONS

1. A two-page outline of the proposed research should include

  •  Hypothesis
  • Rationale
  • Supporting data, if any
  • Expected outcomes
  • Progress specific to the aims for each of two years

Young Supporters Board New Faculty Development Award in Cancer Research

 

The Young Supporters Board of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is soliciting grant applications for the New Faculty Development Award in Cancer Research.  

 

  • Qualified applicants:  Junior faculty members (Assistant Professors and Instructors) who have held any faculty position for two years or less and who have not received funding from a major national funding agency (except training awards).
  • Purpose of award:  To provide “seed” money for the initiation of a promising new cancer-related project by a junior faculty member to obtain preliminary results that facilitate successful competition for a national research grant.
  • Funding amount:  Limited to a maximum of $40,000 for a 12-month period beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2014.  Two meritorious applications will be funded.

Multi-Investigator Grant

 

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is inviting applications for funding of a Multi-Investigator Grant to support the development of interdisciplinary collaborations for a competitive extramural grant focused on cancer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

•   Applications are open to all UAB Cancer Center faculty members (any rank).

•   The purpose of this grant is to promote interactions between two or more Cancer Center members that have complementary interests and the potential to develop into a multi-disciplinary research program with a well-defined cancer research focus.

•   Preference will be given to proposals with significant cancer relevance that build upon synergistic collaborations, are considered likely to lead to co-author publications and a competitive extramural grant application.

•   One award of $125,000, for a 12 month period beginning August 1, 2013, and ending July 31, 2014.
