More long-term research on personalized cancer care for children with low-risk Hodgkin’s lymphoma is needed, according to UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center scientists who commented in the June 27, 2012, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association on a study that examined the consequences of adjusted radiation and chemotherapy for the disease.

Christos Vaklavas, M.D., second-year fellow in the UAB Division of Hematology and Oncology, has received a 2012 Young Investigator Award of $50,000 from the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology for his research targeting internal ribosomal entry-site-mediated translation in cancer therapeutics.

Monica Baskin, Ph.D., and Michelle Martin, Ph.D., both associate professors in the UAB Division of Preventive Medicine, and Claudia Hardy, M.PA., director of the Deep South Network for Cancer Control, have been selected as behavioral social science volunteers for the American Psychological Association’s Socioeconomic Status Related Cancer Disparities Program.
