UAB Professor Louise Chow Elected to National Academy of Sciences PDF Print E-mail

Louise T. Chow, Ph.D., professor of Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and senior scientist in the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center has been elected a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences for her excellence in original scientific research.  Membership in the NAS is one of the highest honors given to a scientist or engineer in the United States.

Huh Receives Distinguished 2012 ACS Lane Adams Quality of Life Award PDF Print E-mail

Warner K. Huh, M.D., professor in the UAB Division of Gynecologic Oncology and senior scientist at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named a recipient of the American Cancer Society 2012 Lane W. Adams Quality of Life Award. He is one of 11 cancer-care providers nationwide who will be honored in a ceremony on Thursday, May 3, 2012, during the ACS annual board meeting in Dallas.

UAB Receives $19-Million Grant to Reduce Cancer Disparities PDF Print E-mail

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham have received a five-year, $19 million National Cancer Institute renewal grant for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, Morehouse School of Medicine and Tuskegee University partnership to address cancer disparities among blacks.

Yang Receives Prestigious AACR Career Development Award PDF Print E-mail

Shih-Hsin (Eddy) Yang, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Radiation Oncology and associate scientist in the experimental therapeutics program at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center has been awarded the AACR-Genentech BioOncology Career Development Award for Cancer Research at the American Association for Cancer Research annual  meeting in April. The two-year, $100,000 award represents a joint effort to encourage and support junior faculty who are in the first four years of a faculty appointment to advance the field of cancer research on the human epidermal growth factor receptor family pathway and establish successful career paths in this field.
