The administrative offices of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center are located on the second floor of the North Pavilion and provide efficient, broad-based administrative support to the Center's senior leadership, shared facility directors and membership. Administrative staff provide support for planning and implementing programmatic initiatives, coordinating needs and resources, communicating with internal and external sources, managing shared resources and program-based research efforts, and planning space and fiscal allocations.

Institutional relations, budget planning and management
Administrative staff are responsible for coordination and communication of activities related to the Center's programmatic efforts as well as meetings, conferences, and presentations. Center staff respond to and resolve the myriad of inquiries for information from the public and governmental agencies. They are also available to counsel and assist new Center faculty members regarding operations and procedures of the Center, University, National Cancer Institute or other agencies.

Management information systems
In order to satisfy the information requirements of planning activities or federal agencies, the administrative offices maintain computerized databases on the Center's personnel, members and grant support. These databases are constantly updated to permit accurate compilation of statistics on research support and productivity as well as the composition of the faculty and staff. The Cancer Center Technical Support Facility (CCTSF) develops and maintains the Comprehensive Cancer Center information management system. More information on the CCTSF can be found at www2.ccc.uab.edu/cctsf/.

Space and equipment management
The Cancer Center is responsible for planning and implementation of new construction as well as renovations to existing space. Space utilization is a key issue in program planning and faculty recruitment.

Fiscal management
The Center's fiscal office has total responsibility for $43 million of Center funds. Activities include providing investigators with monthly budget reconciliations, projections and commitments for long-term planning; budget management for shared facilities; and management of interdepartmental research budgets for projects in immunology, targeted immunotherapy, gene therapy, human retrovirus research, and bone marrow transplantation.

Personnel recruitment and management
The Center performs an array of personnel-related duties to free investigators' time for research and patient care such as maintenance of records for more than 400 faculty and staff.
