Artful Journeys Program Seeks Peace for Those Touched by Cancer

Cancer patients, survivors and caregivers are invited to create a living work of art at the new Patient and Family Resource Center at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center. Local art therapist Amy Brown has created a six-week integrative program for those touched by cancer.

Through guided therapy sessions designed to help connect patients, survivors and caregivers with inner peace and contentment, the program is a way for those touched by cancer to use contemplation and creativity to push out the “noise” of physical and emotional stress of the disease. The resulting artwork will be displayed in the Patient and Family Resource Center.

No art experience or supplies are needed, and the event is free to the public. Classes will be held Jan. 12-Feb. 9 at Dawson Family of Faith Church, 1114 Oxmoor Road, Birmingham, on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m.
