Cancer Center Support Groups

I Can Cope
A series of educational classes for cancer patients and caregivers. Meets the first Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. in the Learning Resource Center on the first floor of The Kirklin Clinic. For more information and specific class topics, contact Amanda Jones, 205-801-8431.

Courage Companions

Brain Buddies Support Group
Support group for adults with malignant brain tumors and their families. Meets on the third Monday of each month at The Kirklin Clinic at 11 a.m. For more information, contact Cathie Robinson, 205-934-2921 or click here.

CanSurvive - GYN Cancer Support Group
For ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancer patients. Meets the third Friday of the month at noon at the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way. For more information, contact Brenda Lamb, 205-930-8660.

Young Breast Cancer Survivors
For breast cancer patients diagnosed before the age of 45. Meets the fourth Tuesday of every month, 11:30 a.m. at the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way. For more information, contact Hilary Parmer, 205-930-8870.

New Beginnings
A support program available to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and their families. Meets monthly at The Kirklin Clinic (2001 6th Avenue South) in the Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic. For more information, please call 205-801-8266, option 3.

Orthopedic Oncology Support Group
For orthopedic cancer patients. Families welcome. Meets the third Wednesday of the month at noon at the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way. For more information, contact Michelle Gray at 205-930-8564.

US TOO
A prostate cancer support group for men and their families. Meets the third Tuesday of each month at the American Cancer Society (1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL) at 11:30 a.m. A free lunch is served and free parking is available. John David Farris, 205-326-9439.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Support Groups
General blood cancer support group: This group is for patients and families living with any type of blood cancer. It meets the fourth Tuesday of the month at noon at the American Cancer Society offices in Southside. Lunch is provided.

Transplant Wellness group: This group is for any patient who has undergone a bone marrow or stem cell transplant as a result of a blood cancer. The group also welcomes those who are contemplating a transplant. It meets the second Tuesday of the month at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, at 6 p.m. Light refreshments are provided.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Patient and Family Support Group
For patients and families living with a diagnosis of Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease or Multiple Myeloma. Meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at the American Red Cross at noon. Alma Delgrosso, 205-934-0337.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow
A renewal program for oncology health care givers. This one-day program is designed to identify, enhance, and reaffirm survival skills in the world of oncology care.
